2012 NHL All Star Game

I can’t believe it is time to vote for the NHL All Star game already!? This game, along with the holidays, has snuck up on me again this year! In any event, the time is upon us and all of the die hard hockey fans out there, to vote our favorite players into the All Star game. I have attached a link below for your convenience that will take you to this years voting ballot. The All Star game will take place on Sunday January 29, 2012 in Ottawa, Canada. The skills competition will take place the day before on Saturday January 28, 2012.
In many sports, the All Star rivalry is usually between the two divisions of that sport. In football it’s AFC vs. NFC. In baseball it’s American League vs. National League. Hockey is no different. Traditionally in hockey, the All Star game has been East vs. West.  But NHL comissioner Gary Bettman decided last year that this format was a little stale and decided to mix things up a bit by having a player fantasy draft. Here is how it worked:
Once all of the votes had been counted and the players secure, each player was then allowed to vote on who the team captains would be. Then once the team captains were selected, a coin toss would determine which team capatain could pick first. In effect, this became a school yard game, bragging rights and all. East vs. West was replaced by a player draft. Pretty cool, huh? I thought the idea of players picking their own teams was an interesting twist and hope the NHL brings it back this year. No word yet however, on whether or not that will happen.

Remember, you can vote up to 30 times for your favorite players. So vote now and vote often! Good luck to all of the players and Anze Kopitar. : – )

I can’t wait to see the game!

P.S. – Why is Sidney Crosby’s name on the ballot again?!

ASG is just a showcase to oogle your favorite stars. It’s fluff but fun. Already voted and yes for Kopi. But will you lay off Crosby. It’s the fans that are voting and if they want to see him or any other player for that matter then it’s their vote!! And you can vote 30 times online and then 30 times on your mobile phone. That’s 60 for Kopi and 60 for….well….you know who.
